Road to Glory

SAFF
The first match for the Indians was against Afghanistan. It was a poor start for the hosts as India dropped 2 points in a 1-1 draw, thanks for Sunil Chetri's header from a corner taken y Steven Dias. India dominated the second half completely getting many shots on target but could not get the winner.

The second match was against who already lost their first match 3-0 against Sri-Lanka. This fixture turned out to be a perfect fixture for the Bhangra Boys. India dominated in every aspect right from the start whistle till the end.
The men in blue scored 5 perfect goals. The hero of the day was Sunil Chetri again who scored 2 goals and assisted thrice. Clifford Miranda (mid-fielder) scored 2 goals and Syed Rahim Nabi (Defender) scored one goal.

The third match was against Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan defense was a bit stronger than that of Bhutan's. So India could not find their free flowing game which they had with Bhutan. But Sunil Chetri's magic Syed Rahim Nabi's and Clifford Miranda's presence provided the men in blue a comfortable 3-0 victory which booked India's place in the semi-finals.

The Semi-Finals was against old rivals Maldives. India had a good start by Jeje's shot which almost took India into lead in the very first minute. JEJE kept on threating the Maldives's defense and finally India found the net with a beautiful goal by the fullack Syed Rahim Nabi. Maldives were back in the match by a 50th minute stunner Akram adul Ali. But just 10 minutes later Maldives conceded a penalty when they fouled SUnil Chetri in the box who clinically converted into a goal y placing it into the bottom right corner. Chetri scored another goal during injury time with a lightening speed counter attack y JEJE and Sunil Chetri. India went on to play finals against Afghanistan on 11th December.

WHAT THE GUNNERS CAN DO

They were conquering the world like a pack of wolves hungry for glory. They kept on winning as if Nike (goddess of Victory) settled in their backyard. There was no one who could confront them. Even the mightiest of the European Giants could not even dream of challenging them.  So marched the mighty Catalans defeating ruthlessly, each and everyone who came in their way ….until one day they faced a bunch of zealous young men who had the right spirit and the mental strength to fight back which made the Catalans to stop and think. They fought till the end and sent them back to their country making them and the world realize the truth.
 Arshavin scores the winner
RVP Equalizes-->an amazing goal

It was the year 2011 and the young Gunners had to face the World’s best team-FC Barcelona in their Champions League Quarter-Finals. The so called big clubàReal Madrid who has world’s best players in every position which was led by the so called “World’s best manager” lost to them 5 goals to nil.
The Gunners started the match as underdogs. Nobody expected them to win. But the gunners and their wise coach had the faith in themselves. Though Barcelona scored first Arsenal scored back twice to register a 2-1  home victory .

Assertion: If any team defeats the best team in the world the victorious team will become the new    best.
Statement 1:  A is the best team in the world
Statement 2:  B defeated A
Conclusion:    B is the best team in the world.

Know the legends--->Born in this month

Fritz Walter- Oct 31st 1920:
Fritz Walter was a German footballer and captain who won the world cup for his team. He is renowned as a player whose gameplay and work rate gets better as the weather conditions gets worse and so now the term "Fritz Walter's weather conditions" is used to denote bad whether conditions. In 1956 he scored a spectacular goal in East Germany for his only club FC Kaiserslautern in Leipzig against Wismut Aue, when he hit the ball with his back heels while diving forward.

Walter debuted his national team in 1940 but he was called into the armed forces in 1942 during the world-war. By the end of the war he was taken as a war prisoner and there in the war camp e played with the Hungarian and Slovakian guards. When the Soviets arrived they took all the war prisoners with them where the life expectancy was at-most 5 years. But the Hungarian guards who had earlier seen Fritz playing for the German national team saved his life by telling that he was not a German but an Austrian.

Fritz Walter returned home and took up the charges as the captain of the German National team which won their first world cup in 1954. Ironically, given the intervention of Hungarian guards during the war the final match was against Hungary. Fritz Walter and brother Ottmar Walter became the first brothers to win the World Cup. He ended his career after suffering a serious injury in 1959.

In 1956 after the crackdown of the soviets by the Hungarian uprising the team were caught away from home for two years and Fritz provided the financial support to them and paid them back for saving his life.

The home stadium of FC Kaiserlautern was named after him and is called the Fritz-Walter-Stadion. Here is a Video which shows some moments of Fritz Walter------>>>

There are three more Legendary footballers born in this month who are quite popular. So information about them is not provided here.
They are Pele(Brazil), Diego Maradona(Argentina) and Bobby Charlton(England).

Gunners..!! What happened to that commitment....?

The gunners under Patrick Viera renowned as the invincibles during the year 2003-04 season finished their campaign succesfully with silverware. I've uploaded a video of a match against manchester united which was the title decider for the two teams. The skipper Patrick Viera was sent off because he suffered a ferocious tackle from the Manchester United's striker Ruud Van Nisterlooy (The refree mistook it for dive and gave him a second yellow card). The ten men captainless team defended to win the title. I've uploaded a video which also shows a fight between Chelsea and Viera's Arsenal during the same season.
Today's team is quite unpredictable and one cannot be sure of bagging those 3 points even after having a 4-0 lead against a team of the relegation zone. Remember the old days and be proud to be a gunner---->

Oh what a fight...!! Today we can see such incidents only during fierce encounters like an El-Classico  or a Milan Derby...Can anyone believe that this sort of incident  happened with the "cold blooded" and  "lethargic" gunners?

Higuita The Mad Goalkeeper

Columbian Goalkeeper Higuita was called as the mad goalkeeper EL Loco by their fans and the media. He is considered as the most unique goalkeepers of all times due to his crazy playing style. He is the person who invented the scorpion kick---->A type of a goal saving technique which is quite unnecessary. On the field Higuita was known for his eccentric playing style by taking all sorts of risks. This kind of attitude knocked out Columbia from the 1990 world cup quarter finals and let Cameroon reach the semis. The goalkeeper kept dribbling(more likely pushing ) the ball and came till the halfway line when the Cameroon striker stole it away to score the deciding goal. After this incident he got his famous  "EL LOCO"' (the mad man). Here are videos which shows his invention--->The Scorpion Kick----->>and a few moments of his madness.

The only goalkeeper to score a HatTrick

Jose Luis Chilavert of Paraguay was the only goalkeeper to score a HatTrick. He scored a total of 62 goals in his career both for his country and the club. His feat was surpassed by the Brazilian goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni but most of the goals came from Penalty kicks. He was 3 times IFFHS' best GK award winner. The Paraguayian left footer is a freekick specialist and often took penalties. He scored 8 of his international goals during the FIFA 2002 qualifiers for his country which were very crucial for the qualification. Footballing legend Diego Maradona appreciated the goalkeeper during a match between their teams when Chilavert stopped his freekick with an extraordinary save. Here is a 10 minutes' video which shows the World's Best Goalkeeper's skills and goals---->>

Real and Barca held

Valencia FC prevents Barca from scoring their 3rd and stays in the first position of the Spanish Premiera division with 10 points. Barcelona is 4th with 8 points behind Malaga and Real Betis who has 9 points each.
The Catalan club came back from behind twice in the match to register this draw. Eric Abidal's own goal ave the hosts an early lead which did not last long. Pedro converted Lionel Messi's delightful assist into a goal in the next minute. One more Eric Abidal's mistake proved costly for the catalans when they conceded Valencia's 2nd goal in the 1st half.  Both the goals were due a cross from the left. Valencia threatened to score more from that area but could not extend their lead. Barcelona dominated the second half completely. Javier Mascherano's 36 yard shot just hit the crossbar in the beginning of the second half. Messi missed a one-one chance but gave an assist to Fabregas who scored the equaliser in the 76th minute. Barcelona kept on fighting but had to get satisfied with those two goals. Messi was pushed in the box when he was about to score by the Valencia's defenders but the refree did not give the penalty. There were 3 such incidents in the match. Watch the video here--->
Real Madrid could not score a goal against Racing Santandar and made a goalless draw.
